PORK SOLD ON THE HOOF
WHAT DO OUR PIGS EAT?
This is extremely important to us, and to lots of other folks.
Our pigs are pasture raised on grass that is untreated in any way,
fed natural non-gmo feed, plus feed all our organic garden and
kitchen refuse. They eat good!
HOW OLD ARE OUR PIGS WHEN THEY ARE SOLD?
Usually they are 6 months old and about a 400lb. All are boars.
DO WE GIVE SHOTS OR OTHER MEDICATIONS TO OUR PIGS?
Not unless the pig will die if we don't. We haven't had to yet.
WHY SHOULD YOU BUY PORK ON THE HOOF?
For the reasons above. You will know where your pig lived, what it ate,
how it was treated and how old it was. PLUS, you get wonderful meat at
a very reasonable price - cut just the way you want it. WOW!
NOT ENOUGH FREEZER SPACE FOR ABOUT 300LB OF PORK?
Some people buy a used freezer and put it in the garage, just for meat.
Others split the pig with 1 or 2 family members or friends.
While others ( like us) store it in a large chest freezer initially.
Then home can pork chunks in gravy, sausage, etc as quickly as possible to free up freezer space for other items.
We also cure and cold smoke our own hams and bacon. YUM!
NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE?
No worries. We will walk you through every step and give you the info that you need to make good decisions.
HAVE NO WAY TO GET A 400LB PIG TO THE PROCESSOR?
We can deliver the live animal to your processor and then the frozen meat in vacuum sealed packages to your door, for a reasonable fee.
HOW MUCH DOES ALL THIS COST?
We can only give you an estimate, because market prices for pork vary
from year to year. Plus delivery charges depend on distance and man power involved. This year, all natural pigs are going for $2lb on the hoof. A 20 mile delivery with 2 men is running $200. And our processor is charging 65 cents per lb for the finished product.
SO THAT TOTALS ABOUT $4.00lb...
